Scores of residents of Tarkwa-Nsuta in the Tarkwa Nsueam municipality of the Western Region on Friday, 16 November blocked the Tarkwa-Takoradi road to protest against the killing of pedestrians by speeding cars on that stretch.

The residents burned car tyres as part of their protest.

Their action, which was triggered by the killing of a resident by a manganese truck on Thursday evening, left several vehicles stranded at both ends of the road.

The truck belongs to the Ghana Manganese Company.

A resident, Kofi Ackon, told Takoradi-based Connect 91.7FM on Friday that the man was crossing the road at about 8:00 pm on Thursday when the truck, which was from Nsuta to Axim knocked him down and killed him instantly.
