We’re considering free tertiary education too – Akufo-Addo

TRENDING

President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the NPP government is also considering rolling out an ambitious free tertiary education policy for Ghanaians.

The President who is credited with the successful implementation of the free SHS policy which is currently a model for other African countries has time without number underscored the need to invest in the education of the citizenry.

Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, President Akufo said the greatest investment to make in a country is to invest in its people.

“What I’ve realised is that countries that are leading in development began by investing in the education of their people and that helped a lot,” he said.

With more and more brilliant but needy students failing to climb the academic ladder due to financial difficulties, President Akufo Addo has once again risen to the occasion to ease the pressure on parents and build the country’s human resource base.

“I don’t want to give a timeline but I’m sure it’s possible,” he said.

“For now what has been put in place is a system where students at the tertiary level are provided loans while in school to help them cater for their needs but we’re considering free Tertiary education too.”
