In a recent interview, gospel musician Brother Sammy openly criticized fellow artist Ohemaa Mercy for claiming that God instructed her to divorce her husband, Isaac Twum Ampofo. Brother Sammy described Ohemaa Mercy’s statement as deceitful, arguing that God would never advocate for divorce. He suggested that her desire to leave the marriage was more about seeking personal freedom rather than divine instruction.
Brother Sammy emphasized that God does not directly arrange marriages, asserting that while couples may seek blessings for their union, the decision to marry is entirely human. He accused Ohemaa Mercy of using God as a scapegoat for her decision to leave the marriage, saying she already had the children and stability she desired and now sought independence to enjoy life outside the “cage of marriage.”
He further stated that while divorce could be justified in cases of abuse, using God’s name to justify personal decisions like divorce was wrong. His comments sparked debate, particularly among those who believed he should support his fellow gospel artist rather than criticize her publicly.
