New York’s LaGuardia Airport has been completely shut down after a terrifying collision between an Air Canada Express plane and a ground vehicle.
The smaller CRJ 900 jet had just landed from Montreal and was slowing to about 24 mph when it slammed into the vehicle. The plane suffered heavy damage – its nose is now tilted dramatically upwards – and reports confirm several injuries among the roughly 76 passengers and crew on board.
Emergency crews are swarming the scene. Roads and highway exits to the airport are blocked, chaos is building for travellers, and the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a full ground stop with a high chance it will last for hours.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an immediate investigation.
