Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has officially joined Atlético Madrid after sealing a €40 million move from Atalanta.
The Nigerian winger has signed a long-term deal with the La Liga giants until June 2030. The transfer includes an initial €35 million fee, with an extra €5 million in performance bonuses.
Lookman was presented to the Spanish media on Monday and confirmed he will wear the No. 22 shirt this season.
“I’m very happy, truly, it’s a huge club, a blessing for me, I’m incredibly proud,” he said.
He described his first hours with teammates as positive: “I’ve already been with my teammates, it’s been fantastic, they’ve given me a great welcome, I’m looking forward to sharing more training sessions.”
Representing Nigeria is a priority for the 25-year-old: “It’s fantastic, a great responsibility, but also a pleasure to wear these colours.”
On giving up a bigger salary to play in La Liga, Lookman explained: “I’m very happy, that’s why I came, it’s also a pleasure to play in this league.”
He also highlighted what he brings to Atlético Madrid: “My game is very dynamic, it’s based on speed and I’ll try to make the difference in critical moments. That’s what I like. The most important thing is to help the team.”
