Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has finally addressed the controversy surrounding the Nigeria-Morocco AFCON semi-final match that sent social media into a frenzy.
Nigerian fans accused Laryea of favoring Morocco during the heated clash in Rabat, but the Ghanaian official isn’t losing sleep over the criticism.
Speaking to reporters after arriving in Ghana on Saturday, Laryea was clear: he did his job, and social media noise doesn’t concern him.
“For me, I just do my refereeing job and I don’t listen to what goes on social media. I just apply the laws of the game,” he stated firmly when asked about the Ghana-Nigeria online banter.
Laryea was among elite referees selected for the 35th AFCON in Morocco. His appointment to handle the explosive Nigeria-Morocco semi-final was always going to attract attention, and Nigerian supporters didn’t hold back their criticism after their team’s exit.
But Laryea remains unbothered, focused solely on upholding the rules regardless of public opinion or Twitter wars.
