French winger Allan Saint-Maximin has exited Mexican club América after alleging that his children were subjected to racist abuse, a situation that ultimately led to a mutual termination of his contract.
The 28-year-old winger, who joined the club in August, disclosed earlier this week that his family had been targeted. While Saint-Maximin said he has endured criticism throughout his career, he stressed that attacks involving his children crossed an unacceptable line.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the former Newcastle United player said racism directed at his family would never be tolerated, describing such behaviour as rooted in ignorance rather than skin colour. He added that his responsibility as a father outweighed any professional obligation.
Following the disclosure, Club América confirmed that the player’s departure was agreed by both sides. The club condemned all forms of discrimination and expressed solidarity with Saint-Maximin and his family.
Head coach André Jardine described the winger as a top-level talent capable of playing in any major league, calling his exit unfortunate for the team.
Saint-Maximin made 15 appearances for Club América, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He previously featured for Al-Ahli and Fenerbahçe after leaving Newcastle United in 2023.
