A member of Anthony Joshua’s family has claimed the former heavyweight champion is set to retire from boxing.

The 36-year-old boxer is reportedly considering stepping away from the sport after a tragic car crash in Nigeria claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and team members. The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Makun, left Sina Ghami, Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, his personal trainer, dead at the scene. Joshua narrowly survived with minor injuries, reportedly due to a last-minute seat swap in the SUV.

This devastating incident comes just ten days after Joshua celebrated a knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami, a fight that many had hoped would boost his return to top form. Despite this win, the loss of two key members of his team has cast uncertainty over his future in boxing.

A family member close to Joshua shared, “This has been a very difficult time for Anthony. He is reflecting on everything and is considering taking a step back from boxing to focus on healing and his family.” The tragic events have reportedly prompted Joshua to seriously evaluate whether continuing his career in the ring is worth the emotional toll.

The funerals of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele took place on January 4, 2026, at the London Central Mosque. Joshua was present, visiting the families and offering heartfelt support as he processed the shocking loss.
