Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table was cut to four points after a 3–2 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. The Gunners knew both Manchester City and Aston Villa had won earlier in the weekend, increasing the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal started the match strongly, creating chances from set-pieces, with Senne Lammens making an important save to keep the scores level. Arsenal went ahead in the 29th minute when goalkeeper Martinez accidentally deflected Martin Odegaard’s shot into his own net.
However, Arsenal’s defence struggled, and in the 37th minute Mbeumo intercepted a poor pass from Zubimendi and rounded David Raya to equalize. Five minutes into the second half, Dorgu combined with Bruno Fernandes, setting up the Dutchman to score a brilliant strike off the underside of the bar, giving United the lead.
Despite pushing for a response, Arsenal could not find a way back into the game. The defeat shows how tight the Premier League race is this season and the importance of staying sharp in defence.
Lammens tipped Bukayo Saka’s powerful shot around the post as Arsenal tried to push back. A corner soon followed, causing chaos in the United box, but Cunha couldn’t get enough contact to finish.
Moments later, Cunha had the final say, curling a brilliant shot around Gabriel into the bottom-right corner, sending the travelling fans into wild celebrations.
