The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an incident in which a Jacobu District patrol team was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum during routine patrol duties.
The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, after police officers retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy. Officers instructed the boy to inform the firearm’s owner to report to the nearest police station with the proper documentation.
While returning from the operation, the patrol team was confronted by a crowd of about 100 individuals who blocked the road. Some members of the group, reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle.
During the confrontation, police fired shots, resulting in the shooting of the individual who had taken the service weapon, while another person sustained injuries. The stolen service rifle was later successfully recovered.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command condemned the attack and reiterated its warning to the public against acts of violence toward law enforcement officers. The Command stressed that individuals involved in attacks on police personnel will be tracked down, arrested, and made to face the full rigours of the law.
