Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent signing of England striker Tammy Abraham, marking his return to the Premier League club after several years away.
Abraham joins Villa from Turkish Super Lig side Beşiktaş, whom he only joined on a permanent deal from AC Milan last summer. The 28-year-old now returns to familiar ground, having previously enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Villa Park.
During the 2018/19 campaign, Abraham played a pivotal role in Aston Villa’s promotion to the Premier League. He finished the season with an impressive 25 league goals and calmly converted the decisive penalty in the shoot-out victory over West Bromwich Albion, which secured Villa’s place in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
That prolific season saw Abraham become the first Aston Villa player since Andy Gray in the 1976/77 campaign to score 25 goals in a single league season.
Following his departure from Villa, Abraham went on to achieve major success in Europe. He lifted the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea before later helping AS Roma win the UEFA Europa Conference League, further cementing his reputation as a proven goalscorer at the highest level.
