Defence Force says its air defence systems have successfully intercepted and destroyed 182 missiles and 398 drones targeting the kingdom since Iran launched attacks late last month. In an official statement,
the General Command of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) announced that its defences have been confronting successive waves of what it described as “hostile terrorist Iranian aggression.”
The figures bring the total number of intercepted threats to nearly 580 since the onset of the current conflict. The statement did not provide details about any injuries, damage on the ground, or the exact timing of individual attacks. It also did not specify whether all the projectiles were aimed directly at Bahraini territory or if some were intercepted while heading toward other targets in the region.
Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters, has been on high alert as tensions in the Middle East have escalated into open conflict involving Iran. The small Gulf kingdom has relied heavily on its advanced air defence systems – often supported by regional and international partners – to counter the barrage of missiles and drones.
