The bodies of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, close friends and longtime associates of British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua, have been flown abroad for burial following the tragic car crash that claimed their lives.
The fatal accident occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State. Joshua and the two men were travelling together in a Lexus SUV when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated. The impact killed Ghami and Ayodele instantly, while Joshua sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The deceased had reportedly travelled to Nigeria to spend the Christmas holiday with Joshua, turning what was meant to be a festive visit into a heartbreaking tragedy. The incident sent shockwaves through the boxing community and among fans, with tributes pouring in for the two men, who were described as both close friends and key members of Joshua’s support team.
Anthony Joshua was admitted to a Lagos hospital following the crash and remained under medical care for several days. He was later discharged on Wednesday evening, December 31, after doctors confirmed his condition had stabilised.
Meanwhile, arrangements for the burial of Ghami and Ayodele have progressed. Their bodies were officially released and flown out of Nigeria for burial abroad, in line with family wishes. Further details regarding funeral arrangements have not yet been made public.
The tragic loss has cast a sombre mood over what should have been a celebratory period, as loved ones, colleagues, and fans continue to mourn the untimely deaths of the two men.
