Footage has captured the moment a rear wheel detached from a British Airways aircraft shortly after take-off from Las Vegas en route to London.
The incident involved what is believed to be an Airbus A350-1000 operating flight BA274 from Harry Reid International Airport to London Heathrow on Monday, January 26. The plane departed around 9:10pm local time when the wheel separated from the landing gear during climb.
Video from a live stream shows the wheel falling from the rear section of the aircraft. Despite the incident, the pilots continued the transatlantic flight, and the plane landed safely in London 27 minutes earlier than scheduled, according to Flightradar24.
The Airbus A350-1000 has six wheels on its main landing gear, with reports indicating the detached tyre was the rear-most outside wheel on the right side. The wheel landed on the Nevada airfield and was later recovered. No injuries or property damage were reported.
The aircraft has been taken out of service for inspection. British Airways said safety remains its top priority and confirmed it is supporting ongoing investigations. Airport authorities also confirmed the flight continued to London without further incident.
