The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sanctioned the Egypt national team after they failed to meet mandatory media requirements following their opening match against Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In an official statement, CAF confirmed that the seven-time African champions were fined $5,000 after players and members of the technical crew skipped post-match media duties. According to the governing body, the entire Egyptian delegation walked past journalists in the designated mixed zone without granting any interviews after the final whistle.
CAF explained that its regulations require teams to make selected players and officials available to the media after matches, describing the process as a key part of transparency, accountability, and the overall promotion of the tournament.
Along with the financial penalty, CAF also issued a formal warning to Egypt, stressing that more severe sanctions could follow if the offence is repeated during the competition.
The football body reiterated that compliance with post-match media engagements is compulsory for all participating teams and will continue to be strictly enforced throughout the 2025 AFCON.
