Parents and students in Edo State have been dealt another blow. The government has announced that all public and private schools in the state will not reopen for the second term. For now, there is no new date.
The decision comes after last week’s violent protest in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, sparked by rising kidnapping incidents in the region. The unrest left several people injured, saw parts of the traditional ruler’s palace vandalized, and disrupted businesses, with some shops reportedly looted.
Dr. Paddy Iyamu, Edo State Commissioner for Education, said the postponement will remain “till further notice.” He explained that the delay is intended to give authorities time to address urgent issues and ensure students can return safely.
He urged parents, guardians, and all education stakeholders to take note and wait for official communication regarding a new resumption date.
For now, families must navigate the uncertainty, hoping that safety and stability will soon allow children to return to their classrooms.
