A former Georgia beauty queen, once known for crowns and pageants, is now facing life behind bars after being convicted of killing her boyfriend’s 18-month-old son.

On Friday, Dec. 5, Trinity Poague was found guilty on five counts, including two counts of felony murder. Earlier that morning, she broke down as the jury delivered the verdict. Hours later, she stood before the judge, quiet and almost frozen, as her sentence was read.
At the time of the incident, Poague was just 18 years old and a student at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Investigators say the tragedy began on Jan. 14, 2024, when the toddler, later identified as Romeo Angeles, also known as Jaxton Drew, was found unresponsive on the school’s campus.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested her soon after.
When it was time for sentencing, Judge W. James Sizemore Jr. said, “I don’t do a lot of speaking when I’m passing the sentence. The bottom line is you’re going to receive a sentence of life in prison, which is the appropriate sentence for the conduct you have been convicted of.”
He added that she would serve an additional 20 years concurrently.
What began as a shocking college-campus emergency has now ended in one of the region’s most sobering convictions, turning a onetime pageant winner into an inmate serving life for the death of a child.
