The government has finalized a major $2 billion energy deal with the Jubilee Partners, a move expected to significantly cut gas prices and increase domestic gas utilisation across the country.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, during a working visit by Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition on Monday, January 27, 2026.

According to the Minister, the agreement has already received Cabinet approval and will soon be submitted to Parliament for consideration and ratification. Once approved, the deal is expected to reduce the price of gas from $3.1 to $2.5, a shift that could lower production costs for industries while boosting gas consumption nationwide.

Beyond price reductions, the agreement is also projected to support increased crude oil production, reinforcing Ghana’s position within the oil and gas sector. Jinapor described the deal as a critical step toward improving efficiency and sustainability in the country’s energy supply chain.

In addition to the Jubilee Partners agreement, the government has also concluded a separate $1.5 billion deal with the Sankofa Partners. This second agreement is aimed at further expanding gas production, reducing costs, and increasing overall output as part of broader energy sector reforms.

The Minister noted that both agreements form a central pillar of the government’s strategy to stabilise energy supply, enhance productivity, and strengthen the long-term resilience of Ghana’s energy sector while supporting economic growth.
