President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish Ghana’s first state-of-the-art cyber and electronic warfare centre in the northern sector, aimed at strengthening national security.
The facility will be located at the Tamale Air Force Base and equipped with advanced surveillance and response capabilities to enhance border security and national defence. Speaking at the Ghana Armed Forces 2025 end-of-year West African Social Activities (WASSA) on January 23, 2026, President Mahama also revealed that the government is procuring armoured personnel carriers, drones, and modern communication systems to support the operations of the centre.
He explained that the cyber and electronic warfare centre will maintain continuous surveillance along Ghana’s borders and will have assault capabilities in the event of any threat or attack. “As announced earlier, we are going to set up a cyber and electronic warfare centre at the Tamale Air Force Base. This centre will be responsible for maintaining surveillance of our borders and will also have assault capacity in the event that our country comes under attack,” the president said.
President Mahama emphasized that the initiative forms part of broader measures to modernized the country’s defense infrastructure and improve the readiness of security services to respond to emerging security challenges, including cyber and electronic threats.
