Media Conference Set for Monday
The Executive Council of the Ghana Law Society plans to brief the media on Monday, January 26, 2026, about the significant development and what it means for the legal profession.
This breakthrough came after Ghana Law Society leaders met with Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to formally request recognition and licensing authority from the General Legal Council.
Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie endorsed the initiative, viewing it as progress toward ensuring comprehensive licensing for all practicing lawyers in Ghana.
The Ghana Law Society, backed by South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has taken the matter to the Supreme Court, arguing that constitutional references to the “Ghana Bar Association” should apply to all law associations operating in Ghana, not solely the GBA.
If successful, this legal battle could fundamentally transform how the legal profession is regulated and who controls professional licensing in the country.
