The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals in connection with alleged SIM box fraud at the Sakumono Ramsar Site in Accra. The suspects, Timileyin Fakunle, 30; Begun Adedeji, 31; and Olamide Roheemot, 28, were apprehended on Friday, January 23, 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation by the Accra Regional Police Command.
During the arrests, carried out in separate residential apartments within the area, police recovered sophisticated SIM box machines capable of handling hundreds of SIM cards, VoIP gateway devices, numerous registered and unregistered SIM cards from Ghanaian networks, laptops, routers, high-gain antennas, and backup power systems. These items are believed to have been used to illegally route international calls as local ones, bypassing telecom charges and causing significant revenue losses to mobile networks.
Questioning of the suspects revealed that the operation involved additional accomplices, including Mike and Kpalumi, who are still at large. The alleged leader of the syndicate, a Chinese national identified as Tomy, is believed to have remotely controlled the SIM boxes and remains at large as well.
The police are collaborating with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to safely remove and conduct technical examinations of the seized devices to support ongoing investigations. The suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.
The Accra Regional Police Command has also warned the public against renting or subletting premises to unknown individuals without conducting proper background checks. Property owners and residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating cybercrime and telecom-related offences in the region.
