Ghana Records 12 New Mpox Cases as Total Confirmed Infections Rise to 980

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 12 new cases of Mpox, pushing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 980. The announcement was shared on GHS’s official X page on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

In the update, the GHS stated:

“Mpox Update as of January 18, 2026, 12 new cases recorded, bringing the total confirmed cases to 980.”

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It spreads through close contact with infected individuals or animals and can present symptoms including skin rashes, fever, muscle aches, and general fatigue.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Mpox as a public health emergency, emphasizing the urgent need for vaccinations and proactive health measures to control its spread. The virus can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person, contaminated materials such as clothing or bedding, or infected animals.
