The nominations for the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) are out, and two productions are clearly leading the pack: Gingerrr and The Herd, each scoring a massive nine nominations.
The announcement was made on Sunday during a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels, hosted by popular actor Chimezie Imo. Close behind are To Kill A Monkey with eight nominations and My Father’s Shadow with seven.
This year’s nominations highlight just how strong African storytelling has become, with impressive acting, technical quality, and fresh, diverse stories taking centre stage.Both Gingerrr and The Herd were big commercial hits when they dropped in late 2025, and their strong showing at the AMVCA reflects how much they’ve resonated with audiences and industry professionals alike.In the acting categories,
veteran star Sola Sobowale stands out with double nominations — in both Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji also picked up multiple nods.Rising talent Genoveva Umeh earned a Best Lead Actress nomination, which many are calling a breakthrough moment for the young actress.Public voting for the fan-voted categories kicked off on Sunday evening (March 29) via the official AMVCA website. Out of the 32 total categories, 11 will be decided by viewers, while 18 are judged by a jury, and three are special recognition awards.
