Accra residents woke up to a frustrating surprise on Sunday after a heavy rainstorm swept through the Greater Accra Region and left many homes and businesses without electricity
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) confirmed the outages were caused by faults triggered by the storm on its distribution network. In a public notice issued on March 29, 2026, the company said strong winds and heavy rainfall damaged parts of the power lines and equipment.ECG has since deployed teams of engineers to the affected areas to fix the problem and restore power as quickly as possible. However,
the company did not give specific details about which communities were hit hardest or how long the restoration work might take.In the statement, ECG apologised to customers for
the inconvenience caused by the sudden blackout.Power outages after heavy rains are fairly common in parts of Accra, especially when storms bring down trees or cause flooding that affects electrical infrastructure.Stay safe, and keep an eye on ECG’s updates if you’re currently without light.
