According to reports from Argentina, the crash occurred when Maria Sol lost control of the vehicle she was driving, hitting a wall. Messi’s mother, Celia Cuccittini, stated that Maria Sol had fainted briefly just moments before the impact. While some accounts mention a pick-up truck being involved, the exact circumstances remain unverified.

Maria Sol reportedly sustained spinal fractures, burns, and fractures to her heel and wrist. Her family has stressed that she is “out of danger” but will require an extended period of rehabilitation. “Messi’s sister is okay, she’s out of danger, but I checked with the family because she was supposed to get married in Rosario, Argentina, on January 3, and the wedding has had to be suspended.”
He added that the injuries include burns and displaced vertebrae, noting that recovery from such conditions can be slow.
