Manchester City have landed one of the Premier League’s top defenders. Marc Guehi, the England international and Crystal Palace captain, has completed a £20 million (€23m) transfer to the Etihad, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal until 2031.
With only six months left on his Palace contract, the Selhurst Park club opted to sell their star defender rather than risk losing him for free, securing a sell-on clause in the deal.
Guehi’s Etihad Move: Ready for the Big Stage
On joining City, Guehi said:
“I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player. This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career. I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad of players. I want to grow as a player and a person, and I know at this club that’s going to happen.”
The centre-back becomes Pep Guardiola’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the £64m arrival of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.
Pep Strengthens Defensive Options
Guehi’s arrival gives Guardiola added depth and competition in City’s backline, crucial as the team continues its Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
This transfer also pushes Manchester City’s total spending over the past 12 months to £445.9m across 15 players, underlining the club’s ambition to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
