A First Information Report has been filed against a 38-year-old woman and her under-trial son after she was caught attempting to smuggle a mobile phone into Bengaluru Central Prison.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Lakshmi Narasamma, allegedly tried to conceal the phone on her body during a visit to the prison, intending to pass it to her son, Bharath, who is currently in custody.
The attempt was uncovered during routine security and medical checks at the prison entrance. Security personnel reportedly became suspicious during the screening process and took her to a private examination room, where the concealed device was discovered.
Officials said the confiscated phone contained an active SIM card, raising concerns about potential misuse within the correctional facility.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered against both the mother and her son at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station in Bengaluru. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether similar attempts had been made previously and if others were involved.
Prison authorities reiterated that strict security measures remain in place to prevent prohibited items from entering correctional facilities, warning that anyone found violating prison rules will face legal consequences.
