Popular Ghanaian broadcaster and media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has pushed back strongly against comments from Minister of Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, about the controversial LGBTQ+ bill. In a recent interview,
Felix Ofosu Kwakye said the government is currently focused on bigger day-to-day problems facing Ghanaians—like the economy, jobs, and basic needs—and that LGBTQ+ issues simply aren’t a top priority for most ordinary people right now.Nana Aba wasn’t having it. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on April 8 2026,
she called out what she sees as a contradiction. She pointed out that if these issues truly aren’t a national priority, then why did the National Democratic Congress (NDC) treat them as one during the election campaign
“LGBTQ+ issues shouldn’t have been prioritised ahead of the elections either. The issues you’re calling priorities now have always been priorities,” she said.
The debate comes after President Mahama told civil society groups that Ghana has more pressing matters to deal with at the moment. Public opinion remains split, with many Ghanaians still passionate about the anti-LGBTQ+ bill that has been making its way through Parliament.
