A senior NHS consultant in Wales has been arrested following serious allegations involving a teenage girl, prompting his immediate suspension from clinical duties.
The 52-year-old doctor was taken into custody on Tuesday, February 3, after South Wales Police were alerted to concerns at a residential property in the Sketty area of Swansea. The alert reportedly originated from a vigilante group that targets suspected paedophiles, according to Wales Online.
Police officers arrived at the Rhyd yr Helyg area shortly before 8pm, where the suspect was arrested on suspicion of inciting a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity. He has since been released on police bail as investigations continue.
The man is a consultant at Morriston Hospital in Cwmrhydyceirw, Swansea. Following his arrest, the Swansea Bay University Health Board confirmed that he had been excluded from work with immediate effect.
A spokesman for the health board said:
“We can confirm that police have been made aware of a video circulating on social media involving a member of our staff.
Due to the serious nature of the allegations in the video he has been immediately excluded while investigations continue. Any further inquiries should be directed to South Wales Police.”
South Wales Police also confirmed the nature of the incident, stating they were called to the area
“following a report of a man having engaged in child sex offences.”
Morriston Hospital serves as the major trauma centre for South West Wales and is also a teaching hospital affiliated with Swansea University Medical School. Authorities say inquiries are ongoing, and no further details have been released at this stage.
