Manchester City midfielder Nico O’Reilly says beating Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley could be the perfect launchpad for their title push.
The young star stole the show by scoring both goals and picking up player of the match as City lifted the trophy in style. After the game he beamed: “Yeah, amazing day. Amazing weekend. The game today went very well for us, 2-0 win, we came out to the second half on top and dominated. We’re going to celebrate today and then it’s the international break.“Yeah, over the moon with it. Especially because my family came down and saw me lift the trophy, win player of the match and score two goals. They’re over the moon and I’m so happy I could make them happy.”
He revealed Pep Guardiola’s half-time tweaks made all the difference: “I think it was more tactical. We had a few tweaks and changes and it worked. We found the spaces and hit them with it.”On whether the victory can kick-start their league campaign, O’Reilly added: “Yeah, we definitely need to build on it. It’s a blow for them – we have a game in hand and we play them at our place. We’ll see how it goes after the international break and try to kick on from here now.”
