President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for clinching the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the achievement as something that “feels good like gold.”
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the Nigerian national team for bouncing back strongly after their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco.
“This bronze medal surely feels good like gold,” Tinubu said.
He highlighted that the Super Eagles’ performance demonstrated the determination, persistence, and resilience that Nigerians are known for. Nigeria secured third place by defeating seven-time AFCON champions Egypt in a tense penalty shootout after a dominant showing in regular time.
“Despite their strong run during the tournament, the Eagles fell to Morocco in the semi-final penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of lifting the championship were dashed,” Tinubu noted.
“However, our players remained undaunted, exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, and their efforts have now paid off. We will all be proud as they receive their well-earned bronze medal on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco,” he added.
He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the players: “Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.”
