In a move that’s already sending ripples through the Afrobeats scene, the Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has decided to ban Burna Boy’s music from their playlists following a heated physical altercation with popular DJ Tunez.
The incident went down on Monday night at Obi’s House, one of Lagos’ go-to weekly Afrobeats hangouts. What began as a fiery argument between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez quickly escalated into a physical scuffle, with members of Burna’s entourage reportedly jumping in before bystanders intervened to calm things down.
The exact trigger for the beef remains unclear, but social media is buzzing with theories — many pointing to long-standing industry tensions, especially since DJ Tunez is known to be very close to Wizkid, and the two superstars often get pitted against each other by fans.
In response, the NDJ dropped a strongly worded statement on Instagram condemning any form of hostility and calling for unity in the entertainment industry. They emphasized equality among DJs and spoke against discrimination of any kind.
No one is born hating another because of skin colour, religion, background or gender… People simply learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love.”They went on to stress that all DJs are equal and deserve respect, regardless of who they are or where they come from, and pleaded for tolerance across the board.
Burna Boy Music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice.” The association said they’re launching a proper investigation into what happened to “one of their own,” DJ Tunez, before deciding the next steps. This development has already sparked massive reactions online,
