Nigeria’s National Grid Explains Major Reason Behind Nationwide Power Supply Drop

Nigeria’s National Grid Explains Major Reason Behind Nationwide

Nigeria’s national power supply has experienced another noticeable drop, and the country’s National Grid has now explained why.

In an update shared via its official TikTok page, the National Grid revealed that the major reason behind the nationwide reduction in electricity is gas supply challenges affecting power generation companies.

According to the statement, several Generation Companies (GenCos) are currently facing gas supply constraints, which has limited their ability to operate at full capacity. As a result, power plants are unable to generate electricity at optimal levels, leading to reduced output across the grid.

The shortage has also affected the general operational frequency of power stations, further worsening the situation. This has translated into lower electricity distribution nationwide, with many homes and businesses experiencing extended outages.

The update comes amid growing public frustration over inconsistent power supply, especially as demand continues to rise. While no timeline was given for when the situation might improve, the National Grid’s explanation points to gas availability as a critical factor in restoring stable electricity across the country.
