The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially relieved Otto Addo of his duties as head coach of the Black Stars, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure with the senior national team.
The decision comes shortly after Ghana’s disappointing performances in two international friendly matches in March, where the Black Stars suffered defeats against Austria and Germany. The final blow came after Ghana’s 2–1 loss to Germany, a result that triggered urgent discussions within the football governing body.
In a statement released after the match, the Ghana FA confirmed that Otto Addo had been dismissed with immediate effect.
According to the Association, the decision was taken as part of efforts to reposition the national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and upcoming international assignments.
The FA expressed appreciation for Otto Addo’s service, acknowledging his contribution to the team during his time in charge and wishing him well in his future career.

The statement further indicated that the Association will soon announce a new technical direction for the Black Stars, signaling that changes are underway to rebuild confidence and improve performance.
Otto Addo, who previously worked with German side Borussia Dortmund as an assistant coach, returned to lead Ghana with high expectations from fans and football stakeholders. Many supporters believed his European experience and familiarity with the national team could help restore the Black Stars to their former glory.
However, recent results failed to convince many Ghanaians, with growing pressure from fans and football analysts who demanded improvements in tactics, team selection, and overall performance.
The latest development now leaves the Black Stars searching for a new head coach at a crucial time, as Ghana prepares for the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The next appointment is expected to play a key role in rebuilding the team’s confidence and restoring hope among supporters across the country.
For many Ghanaian football fans, the focus now shifts to who will take over the technical bench and whether the new coach can bring stability and winning results back to the Black Stars.
