Rep. Riley Moore has announced that former U.S. President Donald Trump has directed him and the House Appropriations Committee Republicans to investigate the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Moore shared the update on X, explaining that the committee is preparing a roundtable to expand the work already done in documenting religious violence across the country. He emphasized that the United States has a responsibility to pay attention when people are being harmed because of their faith.
According to an official release, the House Appropriations Committee along with members of the Foreign Affairs and Financial Services Committees will join the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and other experts for a joint briefing. The session is expected to spotlight the rising attacks and systematic targeting of Christian communities in Nigeria.
The report states that testimonies gathered during the roundtable will help shape a larger investigation and guide recommendations for the next steps. The goal is to create a clearer picture of the violence, the affected regions and the support needed to protect vulnerable groups.
Moore reiterated that the United States will not ignore the suffering of Christians in Nigeria. He said the committee remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that the issue receives the attention it deserves.
