Stanley Nwabali is officially on the move after ending his spell with South African side Chippa United, closing the chapter on a four-year association that elevated him into one of Nigeria’s most recognisable goalkeepers.
The Super Eagles shot-stopper has now become a free agent following his decision to leave the club, a move confirmed by Chippa United on Thursday. Despite signing a three-year contract extension in 2024, the 29-year-old formally requested his release, which the club accepted.
In a statement announcing his exit, Chippa United praised Nwabali’s contribution to the team and wished him well in his next steps.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club, his contribution to the club will always be appreciated, and we wish him success in the next chapter of his career.”
Nwabali also took to social media to reflect on his time at the club, expressing gratitude to the fans and everyone he worked with during his stay.
“I leave with a heart full of gratitude… this isn’t just a farewell; it’s an appreciation for every moment you’ve given me.”

The goalkeeper initially joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and went on to establish himself as a key figure between the posts. During his time at the club, he made 76 appearances across all competitions and kept 25 clean sheets.
Beyond club football, Nwabali’s profile rose significantly on the international stage, where he played a crucial role in Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. His availability as a free agent is now expected to attract interest as he prepares for the next phase of his career.
