TikTok has introduced a temporary late-night restriction on its LIVE streaming feature for users in Nigeria, following a recent spike in reports of inappropriate behavior during overnight broadcasts.
The restriction began shortly after midnight on Sunday, when creators received an in-app notice stating that LIVE access would be paused between 11pm and 5am “to keep the community safe.” During those hours, users couldn’t start a LIVE session or join one from within or outside Nigeria, with affected accounts seeing a “No Access” message.
Only creators with at least 1,000 followers received the notification, and many confirmed that all LIVE activities were completely unavailable throughout the night.
TikTok also reassured creators that their virtual gifts, balances, and previous earnings were not affected by the pause.
LIVE access was restored early Monday morning, sparking conversations online, especially since late-night hours typically draw high engagement for Nigerian streamers who host entertainment shows, games, trends, and interactive fan sessions.
The move aligns with TikTok’s recent safety data, which revealed that over 49,000 LIVE sessions in Nigeria were taken down in the second quarter of 2025 for breaking platform rules. Millions of videos were also removed for guideline violations.
