Jos, central Nigeria. People were relaxing, chatting, and unwinding. Then, without warning, gunmen opened fire.
What followed was heartbreaking. The initial attack triggered revenge violence, and now at least 26 people are dead — some killed in the first shooting, others in the retaliatory attacks that exploded afterward.
Many more are injured and fighting for their lives in hospital. In response, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has imposed a strict 48-hour curfew across parts of the city. It started at midnight and will run until April 1st. Residents have been told to stay indoors while security forces patrol the streets to prevent more bloodshed
The governor called the killings “barbaric and unprovoked” and promised that those responsible will be found and brought to justice. An investigation is already underway.Local youth leader Paul Mancha described the pain many are feeling right now
People were here in the evening and unfortunately, wicked terrorists came and attacked our people. We have counted scores of people who are now dead… and so many others are in the hospital receiving treatment.”
