Trinity Rodman, 23, has become the highest-paid female footballer in the world after signing a new three-year deal with Washington Spirit, reportedly worth over €1.7 million ($2 million) per year, including bonuses, keeping her with the club through 2028.
The United States international, who is the daughter of five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman, described the agreement as “amazing” and called it a “monumental and game-changing moment” for her career and for women’s football. “I’ve made the DMV my home and the Spirit my family, and I knew this was where I wanted to enter the next chapter of my career,” she said. “We’re chasing championships and raising the standard, and I can’t wait to keep doing that with my teammates and the best fans in the NWSL.”
Rodman’s contract surpasses the earnings of Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner, who previously held the distinction as the highest-paid female footballer. The deal follows the NWSL’s introduction of the High Impact Player rule in December 2025, which allows clubs to spend up to $1 million above the salary cap on elite players.
Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang hailed Rodman as a “generational player,” representing both the present and future of the club and women’s football globally. Rodman helped the Spirit win the NWSL Championship in her rookie season in 2021 and was named Rookie of the Year. She has earned 47 caps for the United States since 2022, scoring 11 goals, including three at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the Americans won gold.
Her agent, Mike Senkowski of Upper 90 Sports Group, confirmed the forward has extended her stay at a record price, which Spirit described as “one of the most significant deals in NWSL history.”
