The United States government has announced a new visa policy targeting individuals involved in religious persecution in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
In a statement shared on X, U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio said the Biden administration is taking “decisive action” in response to the growing violence and atrocities committed against Christians in Nigeria. He revealed that the U.S. State Department will now restrict visas for anyone found to be directing, authorizing, funding, supporting, or participating in violations of religious freedom.

According to the announcement, the policy is not limited to Nigeria alone. It will also apply to individuals and governments in other countries where religious minorities face targeted attacks and persecution.
Rubio emphasized that the United States will not ignore situations where people suffer because of their beliefs. The new policy is designed to hold accountable those who enable or carry out religious violence, especially in regions where such cases have continued to rise.
The update has already drawn major attention online, especially among Nigerians who have long called for stronger international pressure over recurring attacks linked to religious tensions.
