The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to deport at least 79 Nigerians listed among the country’s “worst-of-the-worst” criminal aliens. The convicts face repatriation as part of a broader crackdown on criminal immigrants.
According to information released on the DHS website on Monday, the Nigerians were convicted of a range of serious offences, including fraud, drug trafficking, assault, robbery, and manslaughter. The deportations are being conducted under the leadership of DHS Secretary Noem, in line with the Trump administration’s intensified efforts to remove criminal and illegal immigrants from the US.
“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” the agency noted. “Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations, starting with the worst of the worst, including the illegal aliens you see here.”
The DHS list includes Nigerians such as Boluwaji Akingunsoye, Ejike Asiegbunam, Emmanuel Mayegun Adeola, Bamidele Bolatiwa, Ifeanyi Nwaozomudoh, Aderemi Akefe, Solomon Wilfred, Chibundu Anuebunwa, Joshua Ineh, Usman Momoh, Oluwole Odunowo, Bolarinwa Salau, and Oriyomi Aloba. Additional names include Oludayo Adeagbo, Olaniyi Akintuyi, Talatu Dada, Olatunde Oladinni, Jelili Qudus, Abayomi Daramola, Toluwani Adebakin, Olamide Jolayemi, Isaiah Okere, Benji Macaulay, Joseph Ogbara, Olusegun Martins, Kingsley Ariegwe, Olugbenga Abass, and many others.
Reports indicate that some Nigerians targeted for deportation have gone into hiding, while others have voluntarily returned home amid fears of intensified enforcement. This latest move underscores the Trump administration’s continued crackdown on criminal and illegal immigrants, which has had a notable impact on Nigerian nationals residing in the United States.
