Residents in the Volta Region are advised to brace for temporary water disruptions as Ghana Water Limited (GWL) announces emergency maintenance at the Kpeve Headworks. Scheduled for Thursday, 22nd January 2026, at 5:00 a.m., the shutdown is intended to fix a significant leak on the raw water transmission line.
Communities including Ho Township, Kpeve, Peki, and surrounding areas will experience reduced water supply during the repair works. GWL is urging residents to store enough water in advance and apologizes for the inconvenience. Officials stress that the shutdown is essential to ensure long-term reliability and consistent water service.
GWL also cited ongoing power supply challenges from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as a factor affecting operations. According to Commercial Manager, Mr. Wisdom Semevor, power outages slow down water production, making it vital for residents to remain patient. He further urged customers to settle their bills on time, emphasizing that prompt payments help maintain smooth water services.
The company is pursuing longer-term solutions, including plans to construct a new headworks at Kpeve to strengthen the water network. Additionally, ongoing extension projects aim to improve coverage: the Kpeve-to-Sokode project is ready to commence, and the Ho-Aflao Road extension targeting Airport areas and older communities has already begun. These initiatives are expected to enhance access and reliability for more residents.
GWL’s Public Relations Officer, Madam Rhoda Donkor, reassured the public that the company remains committed to improving water services. She encouraged residents to utilize available payment platforms for convenience and uninterrupted supply. The management thanked the public for understanding, promising that normal operations will resume immediately after the repairs are completed.
With these developments, GWL is demonstrating its commitment to upgrading infrastructure, expanding networks, and ensuring a steady water supply for communities across the Volta Region.
