The legal team representing Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu (also known as Tupac), the head of the late Daddy Lumba’s maternal family, has issued a strong warning: they will pursue any event centre or venue that agrees to host the planned “Celebration of Life” for the legendary highlife musician.
Lawyer Fati Ali Yallah, who is handling the case alongside the Abusuapanyin’s team, made the statement amid the ongoing family dispute over how to properly honour the late singer. The comment comes after a recent court session where the case was adjourned. The Abusuapanyin’s side is seeking an injunction to stop the event, which is being organised by other family members, including Akosua Serwaa and musician Papa Shee.Tensions have been high in the family since Daddy Lumba’s passing, with disagreements over burial arrangements, who has the authority to plan events, and the timing of any memorial celebrations.
The “Celebration of Life” was reportedly scheduled for late March, but the court battle has created uncertainty. This latest warning is aimed at discouraging venues from getting involved until the legal issues are resolved. The lawyers say they are prepared to go after any location that proceeds with hosting the event in defiance of their position. The case continues to draw public attention, as fans and observers watch how the prominent Ghanaian music icon’s final farewell will unfold.
