Nigerian media personality, actress, and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has sparked fresh conversations around relationships and infidelity after sharing her candid views on cheating during a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast.
In the episode, Toke challenged the long held belief that men are more likely to cheat than women. According to her, women are just as involved in infidelity and may even cheat more, but tend to be far more discreet about it. She explained that this realization has changed how she now views cheating in relationships.
Toke noted that cheating often comes easier to women because they do not have to put in the same level of effort men usually do. While men may need to spend money, time, and energy to maintain an affair, women are often approached and simply choose whether or not to engage. Because of this, she believes many women who remain faithful do so out of discipline rather than lack of opportunity.
She also clarified her often misunderstood stance on cheating not being an automatic dealbreaker for her. Toke explained that her position is not an endorsement of infidelity, but rather a reflection of maturity and a broader understanding of human behavior as she grows older.
At the heart of her argument, Toke stressed that society unfairly places cheating on men alone, while ignoring the fact that women face constant temptation as well. She added that situations like having a “work boyfriend” can easily cross boundaries if personal discipline is lacking.
In the middle of the discussion, she made her point clear with a series of direct statements:
“When I say cheating is not a dealbreaker, people think I’m encouraging it. That’s not the case. As I grow older, I realise it’s not only men who can cheat. Why do we make it seem like men are special?”
“Do you know how easy it is for a woman to cheat? It’s even easier for us. Men will spend money, effort, and time, but women are just receiving.”
“A woman not cheating is not because she cannot cheat. It’s probably because she has strength.”
Toke concluded by maintaining that women are just as capable of cheating as men and may even do so more frequently, but are better at hiding it. Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with many praising her honesty while others debate her perspective on relationships and fidelity
