Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George (popularly known as Sam George), is trending heavily on X (formerly Twitter) today.
The buzz started after several old videos of him resurfaced online on April, 2026. In the clips, Sam George — a well-known strong supporter of the controversial Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill (often called the anti-LGBTQI+ bill) — is seen making fiery promises and bold statements about how committed he was to getting the bill passed.
In one of the widely shared videos, he declares that then-opposition leader John Dramani Mahama “will know no peace” until he signs the bill into law once the NDC returns to power. He also vowed to personally make sure the president had no choice but to approve it.
Now that the NDC is back in government and Mahama is president, many netizens have dug up these old clips and are using them to criticize Sam George. Some are accusing him of focusing too much on divisive social issues in the past instead of delivering on bread-and-butter promises like jobs, better living conditions, and economic relief for Ghanaians.
Others are dragging him for what they see as strong, uncompromising language at the time, while questioning why similar energy isn’t being channeled into solving the country’s more immediate challenges.Sam George has reportedly pushed back, saying the videos only show how hard he fought for his party when they were in opposition, and that he’s not bothered by the criticism.
The resurfaced videos have sparked fresh debate online, with Ghanaians divided between those who still support his firm stance on traditional family values and those who feel it’s time to move past the controversy and focus on pressing national priorities.
