American rapper Wiz Khalifa has landed in legal trouble in Romania after being handed a nine-month prison sentence for drug possession. The ruling was delivered on Thursday, December 18, by the Constanța Court of Appeal, according to Romanian media reports.
The case stems from an incident in July 2024, when the rapper was stopped by local authorities after allegedly smoking marijuana during his performance at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinești. Romania maintains strict anti-drug laws, with possession carrying severe legal consequences regardless of intent or status.
After his performance, police reportedly found Wiz Khalifa in possession of more than 18 grams of marijuana. He was briefly detained for questioning but later released without being held in custody.
Initially, the incident appeared to be resolved with a relatively light penalty. Wiz was issued a citation and fined 3,000 Romanian lei, approximately $830. However, prosecutors later challenged that decision, pushing for a custodial sentence instead. Their appeal ultimately led to the prison term handed down by the appellate court.
Despite the sentence, the case is not yet closed. Reports indicate that Wiz Khalifa’s legal team has filed an appeal against the ruling, seeking to overturn or reduce the punishment. The rapper’s representatives have not yet publicly commented on the situation.
