Colombian President Gustavo Petro has fired a strong warning at U.S. President Donald Trump, following recent threats of military action in Latin America.
“Come get me. I’m waiting here,” Petro declared, emphasizing that he would only engage in face-to-face discussions based on facts, not political lies. He added, “I don’t accept invasions, missiles, or assassinations, only intel. Stop being misled by political mafias that have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and made Colombia one of the most unequal countries in the world.”
The tense exchange follows Trump’s recent hints at possible military action in Colombia, and comes just a day after U.S. special forces carried out a raid in Venezuela, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, over alleged drug trafficking.
After the operation, Trump suggested that the U.S. could step in to control Venezuela’s oil reserves during a transition period, and also issued warnings to other countries in the region, including Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia, demanding action on drug-related crime.
Petro’s response highlights the growing tension in Latin America and a refusal by some leaders to be intimidated, underscoring the delicate balance between national sovereignty and international pressure in the fight against drug trafficking.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro boldly responds to U.S. threats.
