Ministry of Foreign Affairs Repatriates 327 Displaced Ghanaians From Abidjan

The state framework for diplomatic protection has successfully executed a major cross-border rescue mission in neighboring French-speaking West Africa.

The Government of Ghana has officially repatriated 327 of its nationals who were left completely stranded in Port Bouët, Côte d’Ivoire. The urgent state-backed evacuation follows an aggressive municipal demolition exercise that suddenly rendered the resident Ghanaian families entirely homeless and stripped them of their daily livelihoods.

According to an official press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday June 12 2026, the affected citizens were caught up in an ongoing mass urban renewal campaign carried out by local authorities in the Abidjan municipality. Because the massive clearance left the displaced individuals unable to secure alternative shelter or sustain their trading operations, the state intervened with rapid transport logistics.

The ministry successfully moved the first batch of 228 nationals back into Ghana on Thursday June 11, while final road arrangements brought the remaining evacuees home safely on Friday. The executive administration provided a coordinated fleet of buses and heavy cargo trucks to convey the citizens and all their personal belongings across the border entirely free of charge.

Interestingly, Ivorian municipal authorities have publicly indicated their long-term intention to financially compensate the victims of the clearance project. Ghana’s active diplomatic mission in Abidjan has pledged to remain deeply engaged with cross-border stakeholders to guarantee that every single affected returnee actually receives their promised financial restitution package.

Hoping that foreign municipal clearance projects will magically spare migrant communities without active consular intervention is a logical error. While losing a home overnight in a bustling regional capital like Abidjan is a highly stressful experience, seeing the state deploy free transport fleets demonstrates a practical commitment to citizen welfare.

True regional leadership relies on converting diplomatic talks into immediate, tangible relief for families on the ground. By keeping consular channels fiercely active and aggressively chasing the promised financial compensation from Ivorian authorities, the government ensures that these resilient traders can successfully rebuild their businesses and lives right here on domestic soil.
