The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea to take charge of the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations semi final clash between Nigeria and Morocco.
The match is widely regarded as one of the biggest fixtures of the tournament, with both sides battling for a place in the AFCON final and the chance to move one step closer to continental glory.
Ayi Laryea will be supported by an experienced officiating team from across the continent. South Africa’s Zakhele Thusi Granville Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane will serve as assistant referees, alongside Mozambique’s Arsenio Chadreque Maringule.
Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda has been named the fourth official for the encounter. Video Assistant Referee duties will be handled by South Africa’s Abongile Tom, with Tunisia’s Haytehm Guirat and Kenya’s Stephen Onyango Yiembe completing the VAR team.
The decisive semi final is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 9 p.m. Moroccan time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. With Nigeria and Morocco both in strong form, expectations are high for a tense and dramatic contest on the night.
CAF’s decision to hand the fixture to Ayi Laryea highlights Ghana’s continued presence and respect in African football officiating, as the tournament reaches its most critical stage.
