The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has confirmed the second group of citizens scheduled to return home under the voluntary evacuation programme. This group is set to depart on Sunday, June 7, 2026, marking another milestone in the government’s efforts to bring nationals back safely.
The mission recently paused new registrations to focus on verifying the overwhelming number of applications received from the Ghanaian community. This strategic suspension allows officials to ensure that all administrative and pre-departure procedures for the approved evacuees are handled with precision.
All individuals approved for the June 7 flight must report to the High Commission in Pretoria on the evening of Saturday, June 6. This mandatory gathering facilitates essential verification, detailed briefing sessions, and the finalization of necessary travel paperwork.
Applicants should note these specific requirements:
- Travelers must notify the mission by Thursday, June 4 at noon if they no longer intend to use their approved seat.
- This notification process ensures that other eligible applicants on the waiting list can be accommodated for the trip.
- Those who were issued Emergency Travel Certificates will receive these documents directly at the airport on the morning of their departure.
The High Commission has established strict guidelines regarding baggage and identification to maintain an orderly transit process. Travelers must adhere to these rules to avoid complications at the airport on the day of departure.
Key travel requirements include:
- Each traveler is strictly limited to two checked bags.
- Every checked bag must weigh no more than 23 kilograms to be accepted.
- Luggage that exceeds this weight limit will be refused, so travelers should weigh their items beforehand.
- Parents or guardians traveling with children must carry all required documentation, such as consent letters, Road-to-Health cards, and child weighing cards.
The ongoing evacuation exercise is being carefully coordinated between the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria and relevant South African authorities. This collaboration ensures a secure and structured return for those choosing to leave due to recent xenophobic attacks. By adhering to these clear guidelines, the High Commission aims to minimize stress and guarantee a smooth journey for all returning nationals.
